DIY windshield washer fluid: [with Antifreeze / Winter Pro Tips] | Cheap homemade way to make car windscreen wiper liquid soap

Keeping your car clean and well maintained makes it nicer to drive. A clean car will look and feel newer and make it nicer to drive. A clean windscreen is even more important as it is important for the safety of you and others that you can see clearly. A clean windshield (and other windows) is crucial to safety but that does not mean that you need to buy expensive commercial windshield washing fluid. You can make your own DIY / homemade windshield washer fluid, here are a few DIY hacks how:

To make DIY car windshield washer fluid, add the following to a one-gallon jug to make a concentrated solution:

  1. 1 tablespoon of ordinary dishwashing liquid (not the dishwasher variety)
  2. ¼ cup of ammonia
  3. Fill the remainder of the gallon jug with warm water and mix.

However, it is difficult to beat specific car cleaning products that are specifically designed to efficiently clean your car without damaging it. There are some car wash soaps available that are about the same price as the ingredients that you can use to make your own but are specifically designed for cars.

If you are still interested in making your own DIY windshield washer fluid follow the following recipe:

DIY windshield washer fluid recipe #1

To make this DIY windshield washer fluid (recipe #1), add the following to a one-gallon jug to make a concentrated solution:

  1. 1 tablespoon of ordinary dishwashing liquid (not the dishwasher variety)
  2. ¼ cup of ammonia
  3. Fill the remainder of the gallon jug with warm water and mix.

This one-gallon jug of DIY windshield washer fluid can be stored until you are ready to wash your windshield or fill up the windshield washer tank on your car. The combination of dishwashing soap and ammonia will make your windshield clean without creating bubbles or suds. This is important as you don’t want suds when you are driving along and trying to clean your windscreen as a lot of suds could obstruct your view.

SAFETY TIP: Adding some blue food coloring / food dye to the mix and labeling it with a ☠ Scull and cross bones 🕱 & NOT FOR DRINKING can help prevent accidents.

Disclaimer: If you have just purchased a new car and/or you are worried that you may damage it by using a DIY windshield washer fluid. Then don’t use it. You should spend the money and buy a specially made windshield washer fluid, see my recommendations below. I take no responsibility for anything, damages or otherwise (including if you crash your car after drinking the windscreen wiper liquid soap, which I do not recommend that you do).
