Miter saw
With the miter saw, you can make cuts at different angles. The saw functions this way – the blade is mounted on a swing arm which pivots to one or both sides in order to make the cut.
If you are planning to build furniture, a miter saw should be considered as one of the tools you will need. You can use it for crown molding, picture and door framing and so on.

Table saw
The design of this type of saw is simple – blade attached on a flat surface. It is a stationary saw, that allows finishing your cuts much faster and efficiently.
Ever wondered what can you do with a table saw?
The main purpose of this power saw is to cut boards and blocks. Building furniture requires big pieces of flat wood, and those straight cuts can be done with a table saw.
However, the wood you are going to cut doesn’t need to be flat. For example, you can use your table saw to cut trunks into smaller pieces.

Jigsaw
This type of saw is created to satisfy the needs of woodworkers for making specific cuts. It has a very thin blade that moves up and down rapidly and allowing the operator to make long cuts.
It can make both straight, and curved cuts, and once you mount the right blade, cutting through different materials like hardwood and plastic won’t be a complex task.

But why is this type of saw so special?
Well, the difference here is the plunge cut, which cannot be achieved with any other saw. Make a hole using a drill, and then continue cutting with the jigsaw without cutting the material from the outside.
It is very lightweight and comfortable to use. However, it has one big disadvantage which you may want to consider – it is not very accurate compared to other saws.

Reciprocating saw
This type may be the most confusing of all, but once you take a closer look you will understand how it works and what is its function.
Although it is much similar to a jigsaw, it works differently. The blade moves forward and backward rapidly, allowing you to make the cut.
It is not a substitute for a jigsaw, but if you want to compare them you will notice that the reciprocating saw can cut through thick wood more efficiently.
The reciprocating saw is also known as a Sawzall and the idea behind this design is the old-fashioned saw that is pulled from both sides, even though the blade here is smaller.
There is not a blade guard, so make sure that the saw is not plugged into the power socket when touching it and always wear eye protection glasses.
It is used by construction workers and emergency services – each model varies in speed, power, and portability and with the right blade you can cut through wood, metal, drywall, etc.
The reciprocating saw is ideal for cutting wood and metals.
DEWALT DWE304
One of the best reciprocating saws on the market, designed by DEWALT who is promising maximum power for the toughest demands.

Band saw
A stationary saw designed for making curved cuts. The blade has teeth only on one side, and it runs at high speed allowing you to make cuts on thicker materials as well.

Radial arm saw
Imagine a circular saw, mounted on a horizontal arm – that is exactly what a radial arm saw is.
Many gurus will advise you not to buy this saw, as it is outdated and not really important. There is a bit truth in this, as it is probably the last thing you will want to add in your garage, but is it really useless?
Wouldn’t say so. This heavy and bulky saw can help you. it can make crosscuts, rip cuts, bevels and many other types of cuts.
The problem with this type of saw is that it is tough to set it up and it takes much time. Compare with the effort you will need to make in order to set up a miter saw, and you will understand why people may dislike this tool.

Scroll saw
It is a compact and very useful device, although it is stationary. If you are new to woodworking, or you want to introduce your kid to woodworking, this is the safest saw available.
The blade is held from up and down, and you can make very precise narrow cuts with it.
What can you cut with it?
Basically, the scroll saw is made for cutting thin materials, mostly wood and plastic, but if you set up the right blade you can even cut metals.

Concrete saw
As you might have guessed it, a concrete saw is a power saw that is used for cutting concrete. However, you can cut not only concrete but also masonry, brick, and asphalt.
There are many versions of this tool, ranging from hand held up to walk behind saws. I am not quite sure about the first ones, but you have definitively seen the second type on the street.
Since those materials are difficult to cut, this tool uses diamond blades as it can deal better with stone and steel.
It is great for both dry and wet cutting, although you will need to consider the blade type and sharpness as dry cutting with a blunt blade can result in a broken blade.

Abrasive saw
This type of saw, which you may know it as a cut-off saw is ideal for hard materials cutting. It is very powerful and makes cutting metals tiles or concrete an easy job.
Why is the saw called abrasive?
Well, because it uses an abrasive disc that spins at high speed. It is much different from all saw blades, as it doesn’t have teeth. The cutting wheel with the motor is mounted on a pivot arm that is attached to the base plate.
Depending on the task, the abrasive disc can be replaced with a superabrasive one, that last longer, which is the main reason why this type is commonly used.

Panel saw
This type of saw stands for a machine that is used to cut sheets into smaller pieces. They come in two variations vertical and horizontal, although you are more likely to find a vertical one as it requires less space.
Why is horizontal panel saw so different?
Horizontal panel saws are larger and have a sliding part which is used to push the material on the blade.
Cabinet shops often use this type of saw since it is much easier to cut panels, profiles, laminates in pieces. So, you can cut wood, but also metals and plastic.

Rotary saw
You may haven’t heard about this type of saw, although it has proven to be very useful for indoor activities. It is known as a spiral cut saw and it is a tool that should get a place in your garage.

Power pole saw
A pole saw is basically a curved blade mounted on a long handle. If you don’t like the manual version of this tool, you can choose a gas-powered, battery-powered or electric one.

Manual saws
If you feel that using manual saws is a more practical way to get the job done, you are not the only one. Continue to read about manual saws and check the recommendations.
Handsaw
A handsaw is a tool you make an image of when you think of a saw. Or, at least what you used to think of when you were a kid.
Basically, it is a long saw that has a huge blade and a wooden handle attached on the end on it. the operating with it is simple – just draw a line where you want to cut and start cutting.
The big blade is not suitable for delicate cuts, but it can deal with typical sawing jobs.
What can you cut?
Handsaws are designed for cutting wood – hardwood and softwood. Additionally, you can cut plastic and some metals.
You can’t remove the blade from the handle and blades can have different teeth depending on the type of cut you will perform – ripcut or crosscut.
The handle won’t slip if you cut too quick and it is in a shape called pistol grip which allows faster cutting.

Stanley 20-045
If you need a handsaw, and you still don’t know which model should you buy, then this could be your solution.

This one consists of a very thin blade with a metal frame. It has small teeth that are made in a way to cut the material little by little, which can be a long process.
It has a design that dates many decades and maybe centuries ago but has proven to be very effective, especially when cutting thin materials.
Can I cut thicker materials?
Well, even though some of your attempts may succeed, that is not something I would recommend. The blade can break or damage and you don’t want that to happen.
However, even with regular use, the blade will become dull and you will need to replace it. This is not a complex process, as each blade has holes on both sides that allow you to attach the blade on the frame.
This type of saw cuts the material only when you push it forward, so when replacing a blade remember to put it in a way that the teeth are pointing away from you.

Buying a hack saw is definitively one of the cheapest, yet very practical way of taking care of your garden.

Coping saw
A very simple design, yet very efficient type of saw. A thin blade is put in between a frame with a U- shape and the frame is attached to a handle. The handle is straight and depending on the model, you can tighten or loosen the blade with it.
As many of you may know, this type of saw is used for delicate cuts and you can’t cut thicker material.
